A few years have passed and there are still many customers who continue to have the old decoder, so Movistar has decided that, in the coming months, it will offer all of them the option of replacing it with the UHD decoder completely free. But, what advantages does this new equipment bring beyond the reproduction of content in 4K? Let’s see them.

Movistar has started a campaign to renew little by little all the decoders old ones that many clients still use to access Movistar Plus+. To do this, the operator is offering users who have a Fusion package and are still using the old model the possibility of replacing it with the UHD decoder for free.

There are two models: the UHD set-top box and the UHD Smart WiFi set-top box. The only difference between them is that the first You must connect it to the router with an Ethernet network cable and the second is wireless, so as long as we have a Smart WiFi Router, it can connect to it automatically via WiFi. Of course, both must be plugged into the current and connected to the television through an HDMI cable.

From then on, the functions offered by the two devices are exactly the same, including the voice command, which comes as standard and which allows voice control through Aurora. The rest of the advantages of the UHD decoder, whether wired or Smart WiFi, are the ones that we explain below:

4K playback: You can watch Movistar+ content available in 4K quality according to your contracted TV offer and as long as you have Fiber TV and a 4K-compatible television. In the Cinema, Series, Originals and Documentaries sections of the Movistar+ menu, you will find the UHD content available on demand. Live, you will also be able to watch some football matches and Formula 1 races in 4K on the corresponding UHD dials.

Direct access to Netflix and Disney+: From the Movistar+ menu, you can access Netflix and Disney+, without having to download their applications, as long as you have a Fusión compatible with Netflix and Movistar+ television by ADSL or Fiber.

LivingApps: With UHD Set Top Boxes, you can enjoy digital entertainment, online shopping, travel and sports experiences with Living Apps. You can access them either from the ‘Apps’ section of the Movistar Plus+ menu or with the Movistar Plus+ voice command, as well as through the Movistar Home device.

Movistar Plus+ on two televisions: to watch Movistar+ at the same time on two televisions in the house, it is necessary to contract the Multi+ service (previously called Multiroom), which includes the installation of an additional decoder.​

Additional features: Movistar Plus+ offers several options that are only available in the UHD decoder, such as Picture-in-Picture to watch two channels at the same time or the ‘Last channels watched’ carousel in the main menu.
