The Czech public broadcaster Ceska Televize (CT) has summarised its HbbTV service on its 10th anniversary.
It has also revealed some of its plans for the future. CT launched the first hybrid TV offer in the country in 2012 and it is now the market leader, being used by over 900,000 people. The most visited app is iVysilani, which offers an archive of 95,000 hours of programming. However, the popularity of live sports broadcasts on the CT sport Plus platform is also growing significantly.
To mark the 10th anniversary, CT will launch an application for the Ice Hockey World Championships in the coming days, and during the year it plans a new version of Teletext and further technological development in accordance with the possibilities of the latest HbbTV 2.0 standard.
At present, more than a quarter of television households in the Czech Republic have an active HbbTV service on television. As part of strengthening its internet services, CT will also introduce specialised applications for smart TVs this year. These will offer the benefits of web-based broadcasting without the need to use HbbTV.
