Best of all, there’s no need for zips, poppers or fastenings with this bag! The fold-over flap acts as an opening instead. 

10 sts and 20 rows to 10x10cm over patt using 10mm needles

29cm wide x 38cm long

The bag is worked as one piece, lengthways. The strap for the bag is placed approx 15cm down from the opening. This creates the flap that you can see in the images. The strap can either be sewn on or simply clipped in place.

DMC, Natura XL Just Cotton (100% cotton, 100g/75m)

2 balls of Yarn A Cedar (71),

1 ball of Yarn B Cream (31)

A pair of 10mm needles

A 19mm leather bag strap

Cast on 31 sts using 10mm needles and Yarn A.

Row 1 (RS) Kfb, ( k2tog , kfb) to end. [32 sts]

Row 2 K2, (sl1, K2 ) to end.

Row 3 K2tog, (kfb, k2tog) to end. [31 sts]

Row 4 K3, (sl1, K2) to last st, K1.

Repeat Rows 1-4 until work measures approx 30cm from cast-on edge.

Next row K1, ( P1 , K1) to end.

Repeat this row until work measures approx 18cm from colour change.

Repeat Rows 1-4 until work measures approx 30cm from second colour change.

Cast off and weave in ends.

With right sides facing, fold bag in half crosswise. Sew up side seams, using leftover matching yarn where appropriate. 

Turn bag right way out and position the strap approx 15cm down from the bag opening. Clip or sew (depending on your preference) your strap to either side of the bag, working into the seam. 

The 15cm of fabric above the strap acts as the opening flap of the bag. Weave in any remaining ends. If preferred, line the bag with a matching or complementary fabric to ensure smaller items do not fall through any gaps in the knitting.
